Object: Her Pieces Are Perfectly Centered

And yes,

Her pieces are perfectly centered.

The ones I love most, are Patricia’s utilitarian pots that can be used for cooking, just natural clay or a fine wash of colour.  They can be used and blackened on the stove or baked in the oven filled with stewed meats.

But she also makes decorative pieces that have natural cracks and look like something out of a museum.  These are monos, monkeys with subtly raised noses and eyes.

Honestly, I don’t know yet if they are for sale, because Jonah and I are running out of space in our muchillas! (backpacks).

they are beautiful. interesting to think of pots and vessels as a metaphor for us. sometimes we are a mess and respond by being upset or giggling and enjoying the chaos and other times the shape we take seems effortless and perfectly centered able to hold anything. our clay self-ness.

i love that. i went to a folk dance camp this weekend and someone said that our vessel-ness is an integral part of who we are. one of my favorite lines from the prophet is,

“the deeper that sorrow carves into your
being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the
very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit,
the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart
and you shall find it is only that which has given
you sorrow that is giving you joy.”

maybe that’s why i love vessels so much.

    thanks, liz!
